• Why use a Medical Alert or Medical Alarm System?

 

Over 150 million emergency calls are made each year in the United States. Research supports the notion that getting prompt help makes surviving an emergency more likely. The longer a person spends helpless, the greater the likelihood he/she will be discharged into supportive care.

 

After a fall or other emergency, 90% of people who get help within one hour will continue independent living, but after 12 hours without help, only 10% of people will continue to live at home.

 

Nearly one half of the older adults who incur a serious injury never fully recover and many lose their ability to function independently for the rest of their lives. A good portion end up in nursing homes, making falls and the injuries that result, one of the most substantial health threats facing older adults.

 

A medical alert system can pay for itself many times over. It can prevent someone from having to live in an assisted living facility or nursing home. Those costs per month are as follows: Assisted Living Facility - $2,500-$3,500, Nursing Home - $5,000-$6,000, Medical Alert System - $25-$60.

 

 

• What happens if I am unable to speak to the care operator because my accident/emergency is too severe?

 

Do not worry because our specialists know exactly what to do in situations such as these. They will first try and communicate with you as best as possible and if they receive no answer then they will call you back. If they are still unable to communicate with you then they will contact the person or service you have listed for this type of situation. Based on your preference, in situations such as these, our specialists will contact a loved one, neighbor, friend, and/or emergency service to come help you.

 

 

• If my phone is in use or off the hook, will my Halo Care system still dial for help in the event of an accident or emergency?

 

Yes. It does not matter if your landline telephone is in use or off the hook because when your pendant button is pressed, your base unit will still dial the toll-free emergency number connecting you to our Halo Care monitoring facility.

 

 

• My mom just returned home from the hospital. Can I get service quickly?

 

Setting up service is fast and easy. Simply follow our on-line ordering tool, or speak with a friendly operator at 1-888-455-8858. You will be guided through the selection of a system, and asked to provide some basic service information, such as the home address of the user and local emergency numbers. You will then select the people you want notified in the event of an emergency, and the preferred way to reach them (phone, e-mail, and text message). Many other service features can be added later, but at this stage your Halo Care system is ready for shipment to you, via USPS.

 

 

• How do I change my account information (address, emergency contacts, phone numbers, etc.)?

 

You are able to change any portion of your account information by calling our Customer Service Center at 1-888-455-8858.

 

 

• How is my Halo Care system shipped?

 

Your Halo Care System will be shipped to a physical address. Regular shipping is done via USPS. Unless you specify a different shipping address, your order will be shipped to the service address for which the Halo Care system was ordered. Normally, your system should arrive within 3- 5 business days of placing your order. Please understand that we do not have any control over delays caused by USPS. Any such delays may cause the delivery to take an extra day or two. If your order does not arrive within the expected timeframe, please contact us immediately. You may also check with your local USPS office to see if they have already attempted to deliver your order. It is common for a customer's order to be waiting at the USPS office after they have already attempted to deliver the order.

 

 

• How long does it take to process my order and ship my system out?

 

Using our online system allows your order to be processed within 24 hours and shipped the next business day. Halo Care does not ship orders on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Once your order is shipped you can expect your system to arrive within 3-5 business days.

 

 

• Do I have to pay for shipping?

 

Shipping is free of charge with select programs when you order a Halo Care system.

 

 

• If I cancel within 7 days do I have to pay for return shipping?

 

No, Halo Care-Alert will pay for return shipping.

 

      • How big is the box that is being shipped?

 

      The box that your Halo Care system is shipped in is fairly small. It is small enough to fit in your mailbox.

 

 

• How do I contact the monitoring center?

 

You may either press the emergency help button located on the pendant or the base unit e any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

 

 

• What are my emergency contact numbers used for?

 

Your emergency contact numbers are used in the event of an accident or emergency. Whenever the pendant button is pressed, one of our specialists will ask you about your condition and then contact whoever you wish. If it is not a severe emergency, contacting a neighbor or loved one may be more sensible than contacting an ambulance for help. However, if you do have an extreme emergency which requires an ambulance, our specialists will use your emergency contact info to inform your friends and loved ones about your situation.

 

 

• How many emergency contacts am I allowed to have?

 

According to the subscriber agreement you may have up to three emergency contacts listed and have up to two numbers for each contact.

 

 

• Will my VoIP phone line work with my Halo Care system?

 

It is possible for you to communicate with our monitoring facility using your VoIP phone line using a major carrier. It is recommended for your Halo Care service and equipment to function properly, to connect to a Plain Old Telephone Service line (POTS). We recommend our subscribers to use the provided telephone cords to plug in their base unit to an ordinary phone jack in one of the walls of their home. If you have any further questions please call our toll-free support number at 1-888-455-8858 to speak with a representative.

 

 

• How do I change my emergency contacts?

 

You may make the appropriate changes by either contacting our Customer Service Center at 1-888-455-8858. There are no charges or fees for changing your emergency contact numbers.

 

 

• Will my system work if I have DSL in my house?

 

Yes. Many subscribers have DSL in their home and are able to use the Halo Care service perfectly fine.

 

 

• Do I need a telephone line for my Halo Care system?

 

Yes. Your Halo Care base unit requires that you have a regular landline telephone line. The base unit uses a regular phone cord and can be plugged into any standard telephone jack.

 

 

• Will my system work if the power goes out?

 

Yes. The Halo Care base unit has a backup battery built into it and will keep your system protecting you for up to 30 hours. When power is restored, the base unit will automatically recharge the backup battery until it is fully charged.

 

 

• How does the Halo Care monitoring service work?

 

Your emergency response system (pendant and base unit) is connected to our monitoring facility through your telephone connection. When the button on your pendant is pressed, a radio signal is sent to the base unit which causes it to automatically dial the pre-programmed 1-800 number for our monitoring facility. At this point you are connected to a live certified care specialist who will send you help based on your situation. Depending on your condition, they may contact emergency help, a loved one, neighbor and/or friend. In the meantime, our specialists can stay on the line with you until help arrives. With Halo Care you are never alone.

 

 

• Will my phone bill increase?

 

No, the system dials a pre-programmed toll-free number. Your phone bill will never increase as a result of using your Halo Care system.

 

 

• Can I give Halo Care special instructions for a loved one?

 

Yes. As experienced healthcare professionals, we encourage you to include special instructions to help us provide the most effective and personalized assistance. Special instructions can include medical conditions, prior injuries, drug allergies, or even a preferred nickname. Your information is always 100% secure, and can be changed or updated as needed. Halo Care monitoring is a unique monitoring service that keeps you connected and protected 24/7. • How does the Halo Care system work?

 

All Halo Care systems are supplied with a base unit and a stylish pendant with an emergency help button that can be worn around the neck. A press of the pendant button opens up loud crystal-clear two-way voice communication with our live professional operators. If necessary, emergency help is summoned immediately, and all special instructions or pre-existing medical conditions are passed to your local emergency responders. Selected family members and caregivers are also contacted immediately via phone, e-mail, and/or text message. While our system is designed to communicate verbally with the user, no verbal communication is necessary. Help is summoned immediately for an injured, incoherent, or unresponsive user.

 

 

• What is included in the Halo Care package?

 

The Halo Care package includes a base unit and a stylish pendant that may be worn around the neck. We also provide you with a power cord and a phone cord that plug into a phone jack and into the back of the base unit. There is also an instruction manual on how to properly use your Halo Care system. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

 

 

• How do I add more equipment to my Halo Care system?

 

You may add more equipment to your Halo Care system when initially ordering your service and signing your online subscriber agreement. After your agreement has been initiated you may at any time call our toll-free number at 1-888-455-8858 to speak with one of our care representatives in order to add extra equipment.

 

 

• What if there is a loss of power?

 

The Halo Care base unit has a backup battery built into it and will keep your system protecting you for up to 30 hours. When power is restored, the base unit will automatically recharge the backup battery until it is fully charged.

 

 

• What is a Halo Care Pendant and Base Unit?

 

A Halo Care base unit is a small device that is plugged into a phone jack in order to automatically place emergency calls. The Halo Care pendant is an even smaller device worn on the person that has an emergency button that sends a radio signal to the base unit telling it to place an emergency call to our Halo Care monitoring facility. The base unit has two-way voice communication capabilities which allow you to speak and clearly hear our specialists at the Halo Care monitoring facility. Together these two devices help keep you safe, comfortable, connected, and protected 24/7.

 

 

• What are the benefits of a Halo Care device?

 

Halo Care offers innovative equipment and top of the line services that most PERS providers do not. The Halo Care base unit has built in two-way voice communication technology that allows you to clearly hear and speak to emergency responders. Other PERS providers offer base units that you have to yell to in order for emergency responders to hear you. And often, subscribers are unable to hear emergency responders out of the base unit. Halo Care monitoring is a unique monitoring service that keeps you connected and protected 24/7, 365 days a year. Our monitoring centers are staffed with certified care specialists who assist our subscribers with emergency help. Our care specialists are required to have 3 months of intense training before answering emergency calls. • Do I have to be near my base unit in order to hear an emergency responder?

 

No. That is the great thing about Halo Care emergency response systems. Your base unit has a built in speaker and microphone which allows for clear, two-way voice communication between you and Halo Care’s emergency responders. You will be able to clearly hear our emergency responders and they will be able to clearly hear you through your base unit.

 

 

• How far away can I be from my base unit and my pendant still work correctly?

 

You can be up to 165 feet away from your base unit and your pendant will still transmit clear signals when the button is pressed.

 

 

• What is the battery life of my Halo Care pendant?

 

You are able to make 90 calls with your pendant on a single battery. The average battery life of your Halo Care pendant is about 10 months. Your pendant comes with a fully charged battery inside of it. Your pendant will notify you when the battery is low. Contact us at 1-888-455-8858 when you receive the low battery signal and we will immediately send you a new pendant. The base station does not run on a battery because it is plugged into a power outlet using the power cord. However, in the event of a power outage there is a built in back-up battery inside the base unit that allows you to remain connected and protected for up to 30 hours. When the power comes back on, the back-up battery is automatically re-charged for next time.

 

 

• What if I decide to cancel my order?

 

In the subscriber agreement, it clearly defines our cancellation policy. You may cancel your agreement with or without cause at any time prior to midnight of the seventh business day after the date of your agreement. In addition, you may cancel your agreement 30 days after notifying Halo Care in writing of such cancellation. The Monitoring System needs to be returned IN GOOD WORKING ORDER to Halo Care at the subscriber’s expense by delivery service (UPS, USPS, US Postal Service) signature required.

 

 

• Will I be charged for a service call if something breaks?

 

No. In the event something breaks in the equipment you may call us toll-free at 1-888-455-8858 because any software issues will most likely be able to be solved over the phone. If it is a hardware issue then you should still call the toll-free number so that we can verify the problem. If the unit is faulty then we will ask you to send the unit back to Halo Care at 5609 US Hwy 19, Suite D, New Port Richey, FL 34652 and you will be sent a new unit immediately.

 

 

• What is the duration of my monitoring service agreement?

 

Our subscriber agreement states that the term of your agreement shall be for the period of one month. Your agreement shall renew itself month to month thereafter for one-month terms under the same terms and conditions, unless either party gives written notice to the other by certified mail, return receipt requested, of their intention not to renew this agreement at least 30 days prior to the expiration of any term, thereby relieving you of any obligation to pay any charge after the termination of service.

 

 

• Is it safe to provide my personal information on this agreement?

 

Yes. Halo Care has a very secure online system in which we use to keep all of our subscriber’s information safe, private, and secure. Once you are done filling out and signing the online agreement, all of the data is encrypted which keeps it from ever being altered or stolen. Halo Care’s top priority is to keep you and your family safe as well as keeping your identity protected.

 

 

• What if I am having trouble installing the system?

 

Every Halo Care system is already pre-programmed and setup for your convenience. All you have to do once you receive your system in the mail is simply plug it in, press the HELP button and a Halo Care specialist will verify that your system is activated. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.
